Abstract Submission Steps

The abstract submission process contains many steps. These steps should be completed in the order listed, although you can go back and edit information at any time. The steps do not have to be completed in one session.

  • Abstract Body
  • Additional Images
  • Preview Abstract
  • Submit Abstract

Note: Once an abstract is submitted, information cannot be edited.

The Body of the Abstract

The body of the abstract will be typed or pasted onto the online form. The abstract must be structured in the proper format, as outlined below. Abstracts submitted by physicians as the presenting authors (i.e., the person submitting the abstract) who do not follow the proper format may be rejected. Abstracts from non-physician presenting authors are encouraged, but not required to follow the structured format.

Structured Format

  • Background: Include relevant information necessary to understand your clinical question. State your objective as specific aim(s) and, if applicable, the hypothesis.
  • Methods: State the study design and inclusion criteria. For QI, what did you do? Describe the intervention itself, implementation, and evaluation/measurement plan.
  • Results: State the outcome of the study. For QI, what did you find? Describe the actual course of the intervention, changes in process and outcomes, and degree of success.
  • Conclusions: State the outcome in relation to the hypothesis. For QI, what do the findings mean? Summarize findings.
  • References: If applicable, references should be included at the end of the abstract body.
